A Senior Business Analyst (SBA) plays a key role in bridging business needs with technical solutions. This role involves analyzing processes, identifying improvement opportunities, gathering and documenting requirements, and ensuring that solutions are aligned with organizational objectives. A Senior Business Analyst typically handles more complex projects, leads requirement discussions, mentors junior analysts, and collaborates with leadership to drive strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  1. Gather, analyze, and document business requirements through interviews, workshops, surveys, and process reviews.
  2. Translate business needs into functional specifications, user stories, workflows, and process diagrams.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, IT, development, operations, and management to ensure clarity and alignment.
  4. Conduct gap analysis, feasibility assessments, and impact evaluations for proposed changes or system enhancements.
  5. Analyze data to identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities; provide insights to support decision-making.
  6. Participate in product testing (UAT), create test cases, and validate system functionality before deployment.
  7. Assist in process optimization and automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
  8. Prepare documentation including BRDs (Business Requirement Documents), FRDs, SOPs, reports, and presentations.
  9. Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to stakeholders at all levels.

 

Required Skills & Competencies

Technical & Analytical Skills:

  1. Strong understanding of business processes, workflow design, and system functionalities.
  2. Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
  3. Ability to create process maps, wireframes, and use-case diagrams using tools like Visio, Lucidchart, Figma, or Miro.
  4. Knowledge of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle), Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall methodologies.
  5. Experience writing BRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical documentation.
  6. Capability to conduct root-cause analysis and identify improvement areas.

Soft Skills:

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant fields (MBA preferred for senior roles).
  2. 5–8 years of experience in business analysis, data analysis, project coordination, or product operations.
  3. Certifications such as CBAP, PMI-PBA, Scrum Master (CSM), Product Owner (PSPO), or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt are highly desirable.
  4. Experience handling large-scale or cross-functional projects is preferred.
